Book Challenge Day 6 📚

As I mentioned earlier I’ll be summarizing 28 books every single day. Let’s go! 🙌

Book: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield:

✅ Big idea of the book:
Creativity is like a game of tug of war. On one side, you have your artistic genius, ready to unleash its full potential. On the other side, you have resistance, a snarky voice in your head that tries to hold you back with excuses and procrastination.

The key to winning the game is to grip tight and pull with all your might. In other words, resist the resistance and let your creativity flow! So the next time you hear that voice saying “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “That’s not good enough,” tell it to hold your horses and let the art flow!

10 Big takeaways from the book:

1) Creativity is a battle, and artists need to be warriors. Resistance will try to stop you, but you must resist the resistance!

2) Excuses are like teddy bears, cute but ineffective in achieving your goals. Don’t let them comfort you.

3) Procrastination is like a black hole, it will suck you in and never let you out. Stay away from it!

4) The Muse is a fickle creature, but she’ll come to you if you keep working at it. Just keep the chocolate and wine ready.

5) Your biggest enemy is not the lack of talent, but the lack of discipline. Get up and work, even when you don’t feel like it.

6) Don’t compare yourself to others, especially the ones who have been doing it for years. Remember, they started small too.

7) Don’t listen to the critics, unless they’re offering constructive criticism. Then listen, but don’t take it too seriously.

8) Don’t let perfectionism hold you back, done is better than perfect.

9) Take time for yourself and recharge your batteries. A burnt-out artist is not a good artist.

10) Believe in yourself and your work. If you don’t, no one else will. So, be your own biggest fan!

✅ Here are 3 more tips I’ve learned from the book

  1. Embrace the fear – Fear is a natural part of the creative process. Instead of fighting it, embrace it and use it to your advantage.
  2. Get out of your own head – Don’t let self-doubt or negative thoughts hold you back. Focus on the work and let your creativity flow.
  3. Trust the process – Artistic creation is a journey, not a destination. Trust in the process and enjoy the ride, even if it’s bumpy at times.
